Screening of Can Lis – Utzon’s Hidden Masterpiece – Concert Hall, Grangegorman, TU Dublin – 24 April

News Detail

On April 24 at 6:00 PM, the Concert Hall on TU Dublin’s Grangegorman campus will host a special screening of Can Lis—Utzon’s Hidden Masterpiece— a documentary that revisits one of Jørn Utzon’s most personal and influential works.

A closer look at Utzon’s Mallorcan retreat

Directed by Juan A. Morillas, the film offers an intimate portrait of Can Lis, the house Utzon built on the cliffs of Mallorca after leaving the Sydney Opera House project. Through careful observations of light, materiality, and landscape, the documentary reveals how this modest residence became a touchstone for architects around the world.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A exploring the film and its context.
Participants include:
  • Jennifer Boyer, Vice President of Sustainability TU Dublin (Host)
  • Laura Carroll, Director Islander Architects
  • Conor Sreenan,  State Architect and Principal Architect Office of Public Works
  • Juan A. Morillas, Documentary Director

The discussion will explore the legacy of Can Lis, Utzon’s approach to place and craft, and the value of documentary film as a tool for understanding architecture.

A collaborative event open to the public

Organised by Share Your Green Design, the screening is made possible with the support of TU Dublin, which hosts the event at its Grangegorman Concert Hall.
