Towards a circular built environment: bridging the gap between research and practice

About the event:

A shift to a circular economic built environment is essential to reduce global material demand and associated carbon emissions. Despite this, it is still far from mainstream practice. This one-day symposium hosted by the University of Sheffield will bring together international researchers and practitioners to share leading work progressing towards a circular built environment.

The event aims to facilitate meaningful, bi-directional knowledge transfer and discussion between researchers and practitioners on techniques to both implement and assess circularity within the built environment. It will be made up of keynote speakers, shorter oral presentations and poster sessions, and we actively encourage attendance of researchers and practitioners from across the built environment and at all career stages.

If you would like to take part please click here, where you can also indicate a preference for oral presentation, poster session or attendance only. The event is limited to 100 people, including 12 oral presentations and 50 posters. Oral and poster presentations will be selected based on a short 250 word abstract. We further aim to balance representation of different professions and experience levels across both industry and academia when selecting the 100 attendees.

We encourage submissions for both presentations and posters on a variety of international built environment topics, including, but not limited to:

  • Material stocks in the context of CE
  • Embedding CE in practise and policy
  • Relevant and exemplary case studies
  • Technologies to enable CE
  • The future of CE and regenerative design
