Product-as-a-Service in Real Estate. A Model for the Circular Economy Transition

Arup, Ellen Macarthur Foundation

The document analyses the Product-as-a-Service (PaaS) model in the context of the built environment, highlighting its potential to foster a circular economy. It concludes that PaaS models realign incentives towards more sustainable practices and have global adoption, especially in Europe.

Four key value propositions are identified: longevity and stability, outcome focus, operational efficiency, and material recovery. Additionally, four essential enablers for scaling these models are mentioned: digital technology, financing, legal aspects, and collaboration.

In summary, PaaS represents a promising alternative to transform the construction industry towards a more sustainable future.
