The CIRCuIT (Circular Construction in Regenerative Cities) project explores how cities can integrate circular economy principles into the built environment to reduce carbon emissions, minimise waste, and optimise resource efficiency. Conducted between 2019 and 2023 across Copenhagen, Hamburg, London, and the Helsinki region, the project aimed to mainstream circular construction practices at scale.

This report presents key learnings, methodologies, and policy recommendations developed throughout CIRCuIT. It highlights three fundamental strategies:

  1. Extending building lifespans through refurbishment and adaptive reuse to prevent unnecessary demolition.
  2. Maximising material reuse and recycling by implementing urban mining and optimised pre-demolition audits.
  3. Designing for disassembly and adaptability to enable future repurposing of buildings and components.
