5# Anna Mavrogianni

Anna Mavrogianni is Professor of Sustainable, Healthy and Equitable Built Environment at the Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering, The Bartlett, UCL. She has carried out interdisciplinary research on indoor environmental quality, overheating risk and climate impacts on health at the building and urban scale for more than 15 years, focusing on vulnerable populations and inequalities. She has led work on the quantification of climate change impacts on UK housing heating/cooling needs as part of the DESNZ ‘Climate Services for a Net-Zero World’ (CS-N0W) project and the EPSRC ‘Advancing School Performance:

Indoor environmental quality, Resilience and Educational outcomes’ (ASPIRE) projects. She is a Co-Investigator in the NERC ClimaCare project, investigating the climate resilience of UK care homes, and the Clean Air Network ‘Health and Equity Impacts of Climate ChAnge Mitigation measures on indoor and outdoor air pollution exposure’ (HEICCAM), where she leads the Early Career Researcher (ECR) group. She is a member of the CIBSE Knowledge Management Committee and Co-Secretary of the IBPSA-England Board.

This Masterclass will present evidence on current indoor environmental performance of buildings occupied by vulnerable people: homes, care homes and schools, and discuss the relative effectiveness of potential solutions towards their improvement, under the current and future climate. Synergies and conflicts between environmental sustainability and health, comfort and wellbeing targets, in the context of Net Zero, will be discussed.
