Jaakko discusses his professional journey driven by a desire for an artistic career. His project, “Piku Finlandia,” merges nature with urban space by bringing forest elements into a city event space. He emphasises the use of natural, unprocessed timber, citing historical architectural influences and a desire to connect with the environment. He details the selection process of pine trees and the structural integrity of using them as load-bearing elements. His ongoing PhD focuses on integrating diverse wood materials into construction, advocating for sustainable practices and minimal processing.

Jaakko Torvinen is a Finnish architect who graduated with distinction from Aalto University.
