Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a talented and highly motivated Sustainability Consultant to join the High-Performance Buildings and Communities Studio in New York, NY . This multi-disciplined team provides low-carbon, low-energy design leadership and consulting on sustainable buildings and communities with projects ranging from the design of net zero carbon buildings to the sustainable planning of major global eco-cities.

The responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to:

  • Whole building lifecycle assessment (WBLCA)/ cradle-to-cradle embodied carbon modeling.
  • High performance building modeling and evaluation including but not limited to ASHRAE 90.1 energy modeling, local code calculations, daylight simulations, parametric design modeling.
  • Preparing and presenting results and professional recommendations, in report or graphical format, to clients and teams.
  • Work on a multi-disciplinary team with architects and engineers delivering all phases of architectural projects in a variety of markets.
  • May coordinate technical assignments with employees in other disciplines and other departments participating on an assigned project.
  • Review of mechanical drawings and mechanical equipment submittals, electrical drawings and/ or architectural drawings and specifications against high performance goals and sustainable certification criteria.
  • Working or leading others in a multi-disciplinary team to undertake analysis and produce reports for deadlines.
  • Developing and communicating ideas clearly and concisely at various stages of the project.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Building Sciences, Architecture or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters’ degree preferred in Engineering, Building Sciences, Architecture, or sustainability-related field.
  • 1-3 years or related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience/education.
  • Knowledge and experience undertaking WBLCA/ embodied carbon analysis using BIM-based software such as Oneclick LCA, Tally or similar.
  • Experience working with Autodesk Revit in a work shared BIM environment.
  • Knowledge and experience in working with parametric design workflows (e.g. Dynamo, Grasshopper, etc.).
  • Understanding of high performance and zero carbon building principles and technologies and definitions of carbon boundaries.
  • Experience of work in the high-performance/ sustainable design sector.
  • Experience with early stage and detailed building performance analyses including daylight modeling, glare analysis, hygrothermal simulation.
  • Experience in building performance analysis tools such as Ladybug Tools, Diva, WUFI etc.
  • Experience in graphics software such as InDesign, Illustrator etc.
  • Experience in building design 3D software such as Revit, Rhino, etc.
  • Knowledge of building energy codes and standards including ASHRAE 90.1 and Title 24 Part 6.
  • Knowledge of sustainability assessment systems (such as LEED, Green Globes, and BREEAM).
  • Additional certifications/licenses e.g. ASHRAE BEMP, CEM, LEED AP, ENV SP are a plus.
  • Knowledge of a programming language (python, R, C++, etc.).
  • Rendering expertise in + VRay + Enscape.
  • Knowledge of sustainability assessment systems (such as LEED, Green Globes, and BREEAM).
  • Experience in producing and reviewing MEP drawings or architectural Revit models.
  • Team-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate problems clearly and simply to clients, engineers, and architects.
  • Excellent written, graphical, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving, analytical and research skills.
  • Ability to balance various project and company responsibilities and deadlines while maintaining professionalism and quality. Adaptable and flexible, showing a willingness and ability to take on new projects or areas with or without supervision.
  • Knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office Suite, and in particular, Excel for data analytics.

  • Exempt Position: Offered rate of compensation (New York locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $61,143.89 – $84,072.85.
