This role will work on our Scape Civil Engineering framework, to support social value and the delivery of our civil engineering projects. The scope of projects include road schemes and bridgeworks, predominantly in the Plymouth area.

You will be involved in supporting projects with engagement and supporting of local businesses. Helping with the dedicated employment and skills plan, working with schools, social enterprises and local community groups.

This role will require occasional travel to other projects in the South West region, a company car will be provided.

Role Purpose

  • Support projects in meeting their social sustainability targets including those relating to social value and managing the associated reporting through both the internal/external systems;
  • Provide the project with technical advice, guidance and support on social sustainability;
  • Lead on the delivery of the project community investment and social sustainability objectives, in line with the project specific SCAPE social value action plan (SVAP) or Balfour Beatty Involved programme;
  • Develop and manage project Sustainability management plans inclusive of the Balfour Beatty group strategy, customer standards and other project requirements;
  • Creating and delivering training and employment opportunity plans;
  • Working with the supply chain and external providers to secure apprenticeships;
  • Engaging in educational & community activities to deliver social value;

What you’ll be doing

As a Social Sustainability Specialist You Will

  • Lead on the delivery of the project community investment and social sustainability objectives, in line with the project specific social value action plan (SVAP) or Balfour Beatty Involved programme;
  • Develop and manage project sustainability management plans inclusive of the Balfour Beatty group strategy, customer standards and other project requirements;
  • Creating and delivering training and employment opportunity plans;
  • Working with the supply chain and external providers to secure apprenticeships;
  • Engaging in educational activities to deliver social value;
  • Engaging in community activities to deliver social value;
  • Manage associated data capture and reporting including the internal sustainability portal and external platforms where required e.g. social value portal;
  • Identify suitable awards and opportunities to promote project activities, including the production of case studies and relevant communications.

Who we’re looking for

Personal Qualities And Experience

The following qualities/experience are essential:

  • Ability to influence and promote a positive culture;
  • Understanding of UK policy, regulatory frameworks;
  • Ability to undertake project planning, project management and work to budgets;
  • Understanding and practical experience of project Sustainability and Social Value risks and opportunities and how they practically impact on the built environment;
  • Programme management experience with a structured approach to organising and documenting progress through KPI monitoring and performance reporting;
  • Practical experience of Sustainability in a construction environment;
  • Ability to articulate to and influence key stakeholders on how sustainability practically impacts on clients, suppliers, communities and stakeholders;
  • Experience of managing and analysing sustainability data.
  • Driving licence and willingness to travel

The Following Qualities/experience Are Desirable

  • Additional relevant skills and qualifications in any technical area;
  • Experience of working on multiple projects;
  • Stakeholder management experience.
