Programme Manager – Toxic-free environment/

You will ensure products in key sectors such as packaging, textiles, and electronics are toxic-free by design, an absolute prerequisite to make the circular economy a reality. You will also shape ECOS strategy on chemicals & nanomaterials with a view to effectively protect people and the planet from exposure to toxic substances.
Your main tasks will be to:
- Develop & implement ECOS strategy to ensure a toxic-free environment through robust policies & standards
- (Help) shape a portfolio of grants & projects aligned with our strategy
- Promote environmental interests in the proposal, development and revision of international and European policies and standards to address chemical pollution and drive toxic-free material cycles in a circular economy
- Produce impactful materials and strategies in response to targets and opportunities
- Manage ECOS participation in several EU funded projects
- Select, manage, and oversee technical experts to assist our work
- Represent ECOS in relevant meetings, such as meetings of standardisation organisations or European institutions, international fora, workshops, conferences and other platforms
- Contribute to the work of our campaigns (such as Wardrobe Change or the Rethink Plastic alliance), and collaborate with our members, other NGOs and relevant stakeholders
Skills and experience required:
- University degree in environmental sciences, social sciences, or relevant discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience on environment-related topics
- Previous work experience with chemicals-related policies or standards at national, EU and/or international level
- Experience in developing & implementing strategies to achieve policy change, including as part of complex and technical discussions
- Commitment to the values, vision and mission of environmental NGOs
- Strong analytical skills & ability to translate technical information into digestible information
- Excellent time and project management skills
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Excellent writing, communication, networking and negotiation skills
- Fluent English, other languages an asset

- An open-ended Belgian contract with a competitive salary package between €3.200 – €4.130 according to the ECOS salary scale and depending on skills and relevant experience of the candidate
