The Irish Green Building Council (IGBC) was established in 2011 as an independent, non-profit membership organisation, to provide leadership in the transformation to a sustainable built environment. The IGBC is made up of the most progressive organisations working in the Irish Property and construction sector.

It is affiliated with 70 national Green Building Councils that form the World Green Building Council, the largest organisation influencing sustainable construction worldwide and delivering on ambitions of the Paris agreement and the UN Goals for sustainable development. IGBC is now one of the most rapidly growing membership organisations in the Irish sustainability sector with year on year growth of 25%.


We are starting many exciting new projects in 2023 related to circularity, whole life carbon measurement, stakeholder engagement, future skills analysis and we need lots of different skillsets to deliver them and support our members. Initially, we have 3 -4 positions at different levels such as project management, programme management, support and technical roles. We can tailor these positions depending on your mix of skills and experience.

The most essential ingredient however is that you are as passionate about sustainability in the built environment as we are!

Professional attributes

You have a strong professional or education background in an area related to sustainability, construction or education.

Personal attributes

You are highly motivated to create change on sustainability in construction and looking to specifically to make a difference in this area.

Qualifications and Experience required

Ideally 3rd level post-graduate in relevant topic on sustainability, construction,design, learning and development and depending on role have requisite experience.

Essential skills

  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Professional demeanour with ability to appropriately represent the organisation.
  • Organisational and time management skills and the ability to manage and prioritise workloads and deadlines
  • Experience working as part of a team, and ability to use own initiative and work independently

  • Strong project management skills – experience managing EU/nationally funded projects
  • Experience of stakeholder engagement and workshop development.
  • Experience developing short CPD/education programmes
  • Experience of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) programmes and teams
  • Research funding/grant writing skills.
  • Research skills, post Doc.
  • Technical knowledge of whole life carbon calculation.
  • Technical knowledge of circularity.
  • Experience implementing quality assurance schemes eg ISO 9000, ISO 17021, ISO 14001


Salary commensurate with experience, skills and qualifications. However, as a registered charity these generally align with the salary levels recommendations of the Wheel.

This will be initially a two-year fixed contract with a six-month probationary period which can be extended. We can consider remote working or part time contracts due to living costs in Dublin but preference is for working on site in our 19 Mountjoy Square office, Dublin 1 at least in initial year.

The successful candidate will need to be flexible in relation to hours of attendance to meet the needs of the work with some events occurring outside standard hours.
