Head Of Environment/

As a world leading toll road owner and operator, Transurban’s vision is to ensure that we provide a healthy and safe work environment for our employees, contractors, road users and the community. The Head of Environment will lead the strategic direction for environmental management across Transurban’s operating motorways and major delivery projects. It will ensure that Transurban is positioned as a leader in environmental management with the breadth of the role covering multiple jurisdictions with location specific legislative and regulatory requirements (e.g. bi-lingual in the North American business).

The key Accountabilities and Responsibilities will be to:

• Lead the ongoing development and implementation of the Transurban Group environment strategy
• Maintain and foster relationships with key Government agencies, regulators, service and delivery partners
• Ensure the continued alignment of market-based environmental objectives and the Transurban Group environmental strategy
• Ensure organisational compliance with relevant environmental legislation, regulations, industry standards and Transurban policies
• Lead the embedding of environmental sustainability into the Transurban culture and work practices
• Provide analysis and opinion on future environmental regulatory changes and emerging stakeholder expectations
• Work closely with the Transurban sustainability team and align strategies and objectives to support continuous environmental improvement
• Lead the review and management of the Environmental Management System and frameworks to ensure an intuitive experience to support employee access and capability development across the business and to reduce the risk of environmental incidents
• Provide leadership, mentoring and coaching to all those involved in environmental management in Transurban

As the ideal candidate you will have:

• Significant experience as Environmental Senior Lead with a relevant tertiary qualification
• Substantial experience developing and maintaining key internal and external relationships, while providing strong environmental leadership
• Demonstrated experience as a champion of continuous environmental improvement
• Strong change management skills and strong understanding of culture improvement programs and techniques
• Previously designed, developed, the delivery of protocols and systems for effective environmental management including assurance and reporting across large organisation
• Effective leadership skills and ability to operate and influence at a senior management level
• Well-developed written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate sensitively and considerately with stakeholders
