GIS & Remote Sensing Manager, Ghana/
EcoPlanet BambooWe are a global company applying our successful model of landscape restoration to contribute to three of the world’s most critical environmental problems: the need for effective solutions to mitigate global climate change; holistic restoration of the world’s most degraded landscapes; and a growing population that requires sustainable alternatives for consumer products and markets that still contribute to deforestation and deforestation driven emissions. We have spent the last decade building the framework for bamboo to be a solution to achieve this through carbon financed bamboo farms in Nicaragua, South Africa, Ghana, Rwanda and the Philippines.
Our Ghana based operations are currently implementing two carbon reforestation projects within the North Bandai and Bandai Hills Forest Reserve in the Ashanti Region, registered under the Verified Carbon Standard. The 11,000 hectares under management represents approximately 5,500 ha of bamboo being integrated within remnant trees and conservation areas, and an equal area of reforestation of native species. Since 2021, 3,150 ha have been successfully planted with the remaining area to be planted by 2025.
The projects are in a phase of expansion, with new reforestation areas and activities being added into our 2024 and 2025 operational plans, as well as the projects heading towards their first carbon
verification event. At the same time, fire represents the most significant risk of these operations, and remote sensing tools play a valuable role in guiding the project’s operational teams on fire management activities.
EcoPlanet is seeking an experienced and qualified GIS & Remote Sensing expert for a fixed term 12
month extendable to 24 month contract, to be field based within our field headquarters in the Agogo Region of Ghana. This position will take the lead on all monitoring, reporting and verification activities, as well as undertake training of the current GIS and planning teams, in order to refine and streamline the gathering of monitoring data with on time maps reflecting both operational achievements, and the results of carbon monitoring.
