About you

TransitionZero builds data intensive products and services to accelerate the transition to a net-zero emissions energy system. We are seeking a Front-End Developer to help turn our data and insights into elegant and beautiful products. TransitionZero is developing a new Future Energy Outlook which will identify the most critical interventions for reducing energy system emissions in the short, medium, and long term. You will work with TransitionZero’s product and data engineering teams to build an intuitive user interface for early users and stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

You will:

  • Build the user interface of TransitionZero’s Future Energy Outlook

  • Collaborate with TransitionZero and external colleagues, customers, and consultants on design and UI/UX decisions

  • Solicit user stories, epics, features, and requirements

  • Collaborate with TransitionZero colleagues on the design and development of the backend services and data infrastructure

Skills and Experience:

Essential:

Qualifications:

  • Degree-level qualification in software engineering or equivalent workplace experience (3+ years)

Experience & Knowledge:

  • Front-end software development

  • User-led development, including:

    • User epics/ stories solicitation

    • Agile development

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of Javascript / Typescript and HTML / CSS

  • Version control (Github)

  • Knowledge of a typical front-end framework (React, Vue, Angular)

  • Familiarity with mapping data services and libraries (e.g. Leaflet, WMTS, vector tile services)

Beneficial:

Qualifications:

  • Graduate-level education in a technical (software engineering / computer science / machine learning) and/or relevant industry experience (5+ years)

Experience & Knowledge:

Any of the following:

  • Experience with cloud-native development and deployment:

    • Containerisation and serverless deployment

    • Continuous integration and deployment

    • Workflows and orchestration

  • Experience with UI/UX design

  • Knowledge and/or experience in related domains

    • Energy systems and/or commodities analysis

    • Meteorology and climate science

Skills & Abilities:

Any of the following:

  • Python and full-stack frameworks (Dash, Streamlit)

  • Familiarity with core backend geospatial concepts and software libraries (PostGIS, GDAL)

  • CloudOPs, CI/CD, orchestration:

    • GCP (GCS, BQ, App Engine, Cloud-Build, Cloud-Run)

    • Github Workflows, Airflow, Prefect, Dagster
