Your new role
As our new Associate Circular Economy and Whole Life Carbon Consultant, you will spearhead the integration of circular economy and whole life carbon principles across all stages of building projects, from conception to completion along with providing leadership and management to the team. You will work closely with engineering colleagues in our structures, MEP, facades and other disciplines to provide an end-to-end, integrated circular economy and whole life carbon service for Ramboll clients. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate with whole life carbon and circular economy experts from diverse sectors and geographical regions. Your expertise will be instrumental in promoting circular design and construction practices that reduce whole life carbon, ultimately contributing to a more resilient and environmentally conscious built environment.
Your key responsibilities will be:
- Circular Economy Strategy Development: Devise innovative Circular Economy (CE) strategies tailored to each project, with a focus on optimising resource efficiency and minimising waste, while creating future proof built assets
- Whole Life Carbon Strategy Development: Develop innovative Whole Life Carbon (WLC) strategies for each project with a view to influence design teams by providing appropriate sustainable material and procurement solutions to lower the impact of projects
- Stakeholder Engagement: Lead workshops and presentations with clients, design teams, planners, and developers to advocate for and increase understanding of the adoption of circular design and construction methodologies
- Mentorship and Collaboration: Serve as a mentor to colleagues at all levels, from recent graduates to senior directors, providing guidance on circular economy principles and best practices. Actively participate in internal working groups and collaborate with circular economy experts from diverse sectors and geographical regions
- Project Leadership: Plan, manage, and delegate deliverables efficiently, ensuring high-quality outcomes. Strong project management skills are essential. The Sustainable Solutions team are an integral part of multi-disciplinary project delivery, and work across all Buildings disciplines and cross-market on energy, transport, and other sectors. A collaborative mindset is a key driver to Confidential success in this role. Lead or support pre-redevelopment, pre-refurbishment, and pre-demolition audit processes in collaboration with other Ramboll teams. Your expertise will contribute to identifying opportunities for enhancing circular economy practices and minimising environmental impact.

These include:
- Relevant Qualifications and Experience: A degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field within the Sustainable Building sector
- Building Experience: Experience working with both new and existing buildings across various use classes or typologies, including commercial, residential, hotels, leisure, healthcare, and industrial. Possess a good understanding of all elements of a building, including structures, facades, services, and finishes. This holistic perspective will enable you to provide valuable oversight of the design process and ensure the integration of circular economy principles across all building components
- Technical Proficiency: The ability to read drawings and technical specifications is essential for interpreting design intent and ensuring compliance with sustainability goals throughout the project lifecycle. A strong track record of conducting technical studies and/or design work in your previous role(s). Experience in Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) to BREEAM and GLA standards is essential for the understanding of Whole Life Cycle Asset Management
- Circular Economy Expertise: Deep knowledge of circular economy principles and experience applying them to building projects. Familiarity with construction materials, manufacturing processes, and construction build-ups is crucial. Understand and review documents provided by other consultants, including Site Waste and Operational WasteManagement Plans, as well as Maintenance Strategies. Your attention to detail andunderstanding of sustainability principles will ensure alignment with project objectives.
- Materials Understanding: Understanding of various building materials, their manufacturing processes, installation, and disassembly methods, including concrete, steel, timber, ceramics, glass, and others.
- Policies and Certifications: Familiarity with relevant industry policies such as London Plan, Greater Cambridge Plan, and certification frameworks like BES6001, Cradle to Cradle, and others.
- Industry Tools: Experience working with industry tools such as OneClickLCA, Madaster, Upcyclea, Regenerate, and others to streamline project workflows and enhance sustainability assessments
