About the role

As Assistant Sustainability Manager, you’ll be joining the Sustainable UCL Team, which coordinates and facilitates the delivery of the Institution’s strategic goals. The team has been in place for 12 years and in that time the Institution has moved from 61st to 12th place in People and Planet’s University League and won numerous awards for our sustainability performance. We have an open and collaborative team culture, welcoming innovative ideas and ways of working.

A major part of this job will be to work across the broader ‘UCL Estates’ divisions (i.e. Campus Infrastructure & Experience and Estates Development) to support ongoing efficiencies in the areas of energy, water and material resources, as well as helping to provide improved active travel infrastructure. Duties of the job include:

-Driving/ supporting the implementation of UCL’s energy management and reduction programmes, including maintaining ISO 50001 certification.
-Identifying opportunities for water & waste reduction and developing relevant programmes.
-Leading on active travel initiatives to enable more staff and students to walk and cycle to UCL.
-Supporting the implementation of sustainability standards (e.g. BREEAM, Ska Assessment) through UCL Estates projects.

About you

To do this job you’ll need experience of designing and implementing behaviour change activities, experience of energy, water and waste management, and of delivering change in a complex organisation including implementing ISO standards (additional training can be provided if required) or a system-based approach to energy management. You’ll also need excellent project management skills.

Knowledge of sustainable travel initiatives and/ or sustainable construction would be great. But if you don’t have these things, but feel you tick our other boxes, we’d still love to hear from you!
