About ACAN

ACAN is a network of individuals within architecture and related built environment professions taking action to address the twin crises of climate and ecological breakdown. We are a community benefit society currently run by volunteers.

Background

ACAN have recently received grant funding from the Laudes Foundation to increase organisational capacity, and further our strategic development along three key themes:

  • Campaign strategy development (Work package 1)

  • International Outreach (Work package 2)

  • Longer term financial sustainability.

Role Description

We are looking for an individual to take a key role in leading ACAN’s administration. Although advantageous if the applicant is already familiar to ACAN, the role is open to anyone with relevant experience, and who is passionate about climate action in the built environment. We are looking for someone who will be proactive, is highly organised and has excellent communication skills. The administrative lead will act as the coordinator and point of contact for the two work packages above. Your role will include the following responsibilities:

  • Point of contact for external consultants appointed to carry out the above work packages, overseeing their outputs and coordinating regular reporting back to the ACAN’s steering group

  • Report progress on the above work packages to the relevant ACAN volunteers to provide strategic direction and insight

  • Delivering an end-of-initiative learning report, at the end of the contract term, on the grant outcomes.

  • Assisting in the wider administration of ACAN as an organisation, including: managing ACAN’s primary email Inbox, assisting with editing the webpage, facilitating social media posts, managing our filing system and assisting the financial coordinator.

  • Attending monthly Steering Committee meetings held in the evenings.

  • Assist with organisation and communications between ACAN’s various thematic groups.

Who might suit the role:

Successful candidates will be passionate about the work that ACAN does, and our three core goals:

  • Decarbonise Now

  • Ecological Regeneration

  • Cultural Transformation

This role would suit someone with a built environment, campaigning or business support background, who can work flexibly – the role is likely to develop iteratively as ACAN’s needs evolve.

We are looking for someone who can work proactively and independently in a start-up environment. This requires the successful application to be highly organised, confident in communications and reaching out to people, and has clear leadership qualities.

Previous involvement and understanding of ACAN as an organisation is advantageous but this role is open to all applicants.

By taking on this role you would be playing an important part over the next 10 months for ACAN as we reimagine power systems and seek radical change.

Through this work, you will actively support grassroots campaigning to decarbonise our built environment, and the growth of an international network of climate activist architects.

ACAN is committed to equality, diversity & inclusion, we are conscious of the need to build inclusive workplaces, we encourage applications from all backgrounds.
