News Detail

We are pleased to announce that Can Lis – Utzon’s Hidden Masterpiece has been honoured at the Best Shorts Film Competition, a highly respected international festival dedicated to short films, documentaries and emerging audiovisual formats.

The documentary has received two Awards of Excellence, one of the highest distinctions granted by the festival:

  • Award of Excellence – Direction

  • Award of Excellence – Documentary Short

These awards recognise the creative excellence, cinematic quality and narrative strength of the project, as well as the sensitivity with which it explores Can Lis, the house that architect Jørn Utzon built for himself in Mallorca — widely regarded as one of the most personal expressions of his architectural philosophy.

International recognition for creativity and excellence

The Best Shorts Film Competition honours professionals in film, television, videography and new media who demonstrate exceptional achievement in craft and creativity, as well as projects that stand out for their cultural relevance or capacity to create meaningful impact. Entries are judged by a panel of highly qualified professionals from the international film and television industry.

Over the years, the competition has recognised creators and productions of the highest calibre, including Academy Award-winning short film Mr Hublot by Laurent Witz (Luxembourg), 2021 Academy Award nominee Doug Roland for Feeling Through, as well as projects by Disney Interactive, such as Vinylmation: A Love Story, among many others. Being included among these distinguished winners further reinforces the international significance of the awards received by Can Lis – Utzon’s Hidden Masterpiece.

A demanding distinction within the international festival circuit

Rick Prickett, Chair of the Best Shorts Film Competition, commented on the latest award winners:

“Best Shorts is not an easy award to win. Entries are received from around the world, from powerhouse companies to remarkable new talent. The Best Shorts Competition helps set the standard for craft and creativity. The judges were pleased with the exceptionally high quality of entries. The goal of Best Shorts is to help winners achieve the recognition they deserve.”

These words underline the demanding nature of the competition and the high standard of the selected works, further consolidating Can Lis – Utzon’s Hidden Masterpiece as a project that meets the highest levels of quality within the international audiovisual landscape.
