A Share Your Green Design Film

We’re excited to share that our long-awaited documentary on Can Lis, Jørn Utzon’s stunning creation in Mallorca, is now complete. After years of hard work, dedication, and a strong commitment, the film is finally ready.

Can Lis is a brilliant example of how architecture can blend seamlessly with nature, climate, and local materials to create something truly special. Through this project, Utzon not only created one of the most iconic homes of the 20th century but also a blueprint for sustainable design that remains relevant today. Our documentary pays tribute to his vision while highlighting the focus on the use of local materials and resources, that are so central to his approach to build this house.

This documentary took us on an incredible journey between Mallorca and Denmark—the homeland of Utzon himself. We were incredibly fortunate to collaborate with the Utzon Center, whose support and access to rare, valuable materials helped us dive deeper into Utzon’s philosophy and work. Their expertise was vital in enriching the content of the documentary and allowed us to present a comprehensive view of the architect’s life and legacy.

Our documentary features two fantastic architects who jointly present this story: Piers Taylor, an internationally recognised architect (Invisible Studio) and university professor, who brings his knowledge, expertise, extraordinary communication skills and charisma, and Francisco Cifuentes, a local architect (Aulets Arquitects), university professor, and expert with years of study dedicated to Can Lis and the architecture in Mallorca. Their combined perspectives give audiences a rich and layered understanding of Utzon’s work and his connection to Mallorca.

Joining them is Line Nørskov Davenport, exhibition director at Utzon Center, one of the most important institutions dedicated to Jørn Utzon’s legacy, located in Denmark. Her work has been instrumental in researching and disseminating the Danish architect’s contributions, and her involvement has enriched the documentary with a unique and deeply informed perspective. With exclusive access to previously unseen materials and specialised knowledge, the documentary offers an intimate and detailed exploration of Utzon’s life and work.

The film was written and directed by Juan Alberto Morillas, whose passion and vision have truly shaped this film. Through his sensitive approach to storytelling, he has managed to capture not just the architectural brilliance of Can Lis but also its intimate relationship with the surrounding landscape and culture. The result is a documentary that celebrates architecture in all its forms—not just as a structure, but as a means of connecting us to the environment, each other, and the world around us.

The soundtrack of this documentary, composed by the award-winning Juan Cruz-Guevara, is another standout element of the project. His music masterfully intertwines the spirit of Can Lis, the landscapes of Mallorca, the cultural backdrop of Aalborg, and the essence of Utzon’s travels and inspirations. The score does not merely accompany the imagery—it enhances the emotional depth of the story, drawing the audience further into Utzon’s world.

This project was produced by Share Your Green Design, as part of our dedicated commitment to promoting sustainable design. Monica Rodriguez and Juan Alberto Morillas were the producers of the first documentary film with the Share Your Green Design label.

We’re also incredibly grateful for the hard work and dedication of our entire team. Everyone has gone above and beyond to bring this project to life. The collaboration across different fields made this film something truly special, showcasing Can Lis not just as an architectural marvel, but as a structure deeply integrated into its natural surroundings.

In the coming weeks, we will be sharing more details, including the official premiere date, other projection dates and ways for you to be part of this incredible journey with us. Be sure to follow our updates and announcements—you won’t want to miss a single detail!
