Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, Accounting, Engineering, Environmental Science, Economics, Quantitative Social Sciences, related fields, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in greenhouse gas accounting, carbon reduction initiative quantification, and developing new accounting methodologies.
  • Experience in greenhouse gas accounting, life cycle assessment, or environmental metrics accounting.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with science-based targets and the SBTi target submission and validation process.
  • Experience with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and other relevant accounting standards.
  • Familiarity with the software development cycle, particularly as it pertains to environmental data.
  • High-sense of collaboration, organization, and oriented towards execution.

About the job

As the Sustainability Metrics Program Manager you will be part of the Real Estate and Workplace Services (REWS) Sustainability team. In this role, you will lead a cross-functional group of REWS stakeholders in environmental metrics reporting, greenhouse gas accounting and carbon reduction initiatives, developing and enhancing accounting and forecasting methodologies, and will ensure that accounting methods are consistent with other Google reporting teams.

You will be responsible for developing and overseeing environmental metrics reporting (carbon, energy, waste, water, ecology) across Google’s commercial real estate footprint which includes buildings, food, and transportation (for example). You’ll work in close partnership with the centralized Google Sustainability Team (GST) and data owners across the organization working on Google’s public commitment targets. In addition, you will collaborate with data infrastructure teams to define and drive implementation of tools and controls required for target tracking, and will work with cross-functional teams driving any change management needed.

We drive the development and implementation of Google’s global sustainability strategy to further empower action, ensure alignment and prioritization, identify leadership opportunities, and mitigate risks. We drive sustainability strategy and programs on carbon, circular economy, water, product integration, reporting, and employee engagement, while serving as a sustainability leadership advocate internally and externally.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $122,000-$182,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Drive alignment with cross-functional REWS teams for all environmental metrics (e.g., carbon energy, waste, water, ecology), including greenhouse gas accounting for carbon reduction initiatives and forecast methodologies.
  • Create and maintain project plans for annual Environmental Reporting, which will include engaging with members across the REWS organization and real estate life cycle for buildings, food, and transportation.
  • Support GST on accounting positions and related documentation for third-party standard engagement and advocacy.
  • Support data infrastructure deployment by lending subject matter expertise and ensuring that the automated data processes enable effective target tracking, reporting, and forecasting.
  • Partner with SMEs across Google to establish new accounting methodologies or update existing ones, based on best practices and innovation.
