The role

As the first Director of ESG and Sustainability at Equinix, you will be at the forefront of driving our global strategic objectives related to environmental, social, and governance initiatives across our global organization. Reporting directly to the VP of Sustainability, you will collaborate with senior management across, legal, sustainability, HR, operations, and procurement teams to execute the company’s approach across existing and emerging global ESG requirements, both voluntary and mandatory. This highly visible role demands a deep understanding of the regulatory landscape, industry opportunities, and challenges related to ESG.

What you’ll do

  • Lead the development and execution of the ESG strategy, program, priorities, initiatives, and roadmap globally
  • Work closely with key business and functional leaders, including human resources, operations, procurement, logistics, and legal, to drive transformative change and achieve stated goals
  • Identifying and implementing key performance goals, milestones, and metrics
  • Collaborate with key internal stakeholders to define and implement metrics, goals, milestones, and performance measures
  • Develop robust tracking system in collaboration with legal and regulatory team to monitor existing and emerging ESG requirements relevant to the Equinix business
  • Oversee ESG disclosures including reporting against common frameworks and preparing for evolving ESG regulations
  • Engage with key external stakeholders to raise awareness of our ESG and sustainability efforts, framing and delivering ESG messaging for investor engagement
  • Ensure proper vetting and responses to ESG inquiries

Program Evaluation and Oversight: 

  • Work in close partnership with Equinix Legal, Regulatory and Policy team to deliver against ESG objectives
  • Collaborate with global business and functional leaders to identify opportunities, prioritize strengths, and facilitate program evaluations
  • Develop and oversee methodologies to assess the viability or success of ESG initiatives

Data Management and Analysis: 

  • Develop and execute a plan for collecting, storing, validating, and distributing ESG and sustainability data and content for reporting and stakeholder requests.
  • Use advanced analytics to analyze performance and inform decision-making.

Industry Awareness and Compliance: 

  • Understand the broader industry landscape to identify critical competitive needs and collaborate on actions to support the Equinix strategy.
  • Actively track global trends, developments, disclosures, and tools related to ESG.
  • Continuously monitor and educate stakeholders on ESG developments, industry standards, and regulations.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the ESG and Sustainability program and advocate for continuous improvement.

What you need

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Professional experience in a corporate environment
  • Demonstrated experience working with multiple global stakeholders
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Exceptional critical thinking and ability to advance understanding of ESG metrics and goals

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree or post-graduate work in Business, ESG, environmental sustainability, or related field
  • Professional corporate experience in the ICT industry
  • Proven years of professional experience related to ESG, sustainability, or CSR, with direct experience in implementing and executing ESG reporting programs
  • Understanding of regulatory processes, compliance, and experience with government agencies and officials on policy and regulatory matters
