This survey was developed by the NBSouth research team at the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies at the Politecnico di Milano, Italy, to identify case studies of urban nature-based solutions (NBS) that contribute to sustainable water management and heat regulation in cities in the global south.

While the concept of NBS has gained significant attention and been widely implemented in the global north, many countries in the global south face unique challenges that may require tailored NBS approaches. Additionally, climate change impacts in these countries may be more severe, which calls for more effective and localized NBS approaches.

The NBSouth Catalogue aims at promoting implemented NBS projects in the Global South and identifying region-specific challenges and opportunities to develop effective nature-based solutions. It also aims at fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange among researchers, policymakers, and local communities, ultimately leading to more effective use of NBS as a tool for sustainable urban development in cities in the global south.
